Rebating is the act of buying something and then mailing in the receipt (and perhaps the UPC) for a rebate. Most people assume we are talking about electronics or computer software, and many believe that rebates are a scam. In this episode, we explain some misconceptions, walk you through the process - as well as discuss how to find rebates on staples such as milk, eggs, produce, butter, and meat.

A lot of people email us asking how we saw Barbara Streisand for $4.50 each. We got the tickets through one of the many great theater clubs in New York City. Basically, you pay an annual fee of around $100 and you can receive 2 complimentary tickets to whichever events they are offering that day. You have to pay a service charge of $4.50 per ticket. This is an excellent value. Literally, you could go out every night of the year for less then $1800, a drop in the bucket compared to a season ticket at Yankee Stadium.

We use coupons. We get lots of stuff for free. Some of it we use…most of it we give away. We’re not philanthropists and we’re not trying to make a statement. We just like to see how much stuff we can cram in our car and to see the bewilldered expression on the face of a shelter manager when you show up with a few hundred boxes of tampons or pudding…or whatever. We also have a really dark sense of humor - but you already caught onto that, right? Consumer performance art? Nah. Retail Anarchy? Mebbe. But we don’t want to move to Brooklyn.
