When you live somewhere without stores that double coupons, it is often necessary that you ‘rebate’ to save money. Rebating is the act of buying something and then mailing in the receipt (and perhaps the UPC) for a rebate. Most people assume we are talking about electronics or computer software, and many believe that rebates are a scam. In this episode, we explain some misconceptions, walk you through the process - as well as discuss how to find rebates on staples such as milk, eggs, produce, butter, and meat.

Sorting Coupons - A How To Primer
June 4th, 2008 · No Comments · Uncategorized
If there is one question we get asked more than any other, it’s “how do you organize your coupons?”. Everyone has a different system, so we explore some of the options, our experiences trying them all, and ultimately bicker like children about what goes where in the coupon box.

This is… Bud Miller!
June 4th, 2008 · No Comments · Uncategorized
One of the most controversial figures in couponomy is Bud Miller of the Coupon Information Corporation. He is often seen as a “villain” who harasses and intimidates people who trade, buy, or sell coupons on the internet. Whether or not you have heard of him, this episode is an important conversation to help you understand what coupon fraud is, how to detect it, and how it affects you as a coupon shopper.
This is Bud’s first and only recorded radio interview about his job, the Coupon Information Corporation, and his thoughts on baking, sewing, and needlepoint. He also enjoys murder mysteries and dips in the lake. Sorry ladies, he’s taken!

Timeshares
June 4th, 2008 · No Comments · Uncategorized
I don’t know of any other podcast that travels to Florida for two weeks in order to do independent investigative journalism, but then again I don’t know of any other podcaster who got free airfare for collecting Wendy’s soda cups.
Timeshares are one of the great mysteries of “real estate” and we spell it all out for you here. If you (or anyone you love) is even remotely considering purchasing (and especially if they refer to it as “investing” in) a timeshare membership, be sure to listen to this episode in it’s entirety.
Look, we just saved you $50,000.
The least you could do is send us a box of cookies or something. Wait, brownies? Hero (Managing Cardholder for YMMV) says brownies, I guess we had too many cookies last week. Oh, he says no nuts (in the brownies), please. Oh, wait, he says put the box “Attention Managing Cardholder - Personal”. Thanks!

Cheap Broadway Show (and Concert) Tickets
June 4th, 2008 · No Comments · Uncategorized
A lot of people email us asking how we saw Barbara Streisand for $4.50 each. We got the tickets through one of the many great theater clubs in New York City. Basically, you pay an annual fee of around $100 and you can receive 2 complimentary tickets to whichever events they are offering that day. You have to pay a service charge of $4.50 per ticket. This is an excellent value. Literally, you could go out every night of the year for less then $1800, a drop in the bucket compared to a season ticket at Yankee Stadium.
Our favorite theater club is Theater Extras. Why? Because it’s the only one that offers 20% off membership when you use coupon code MARC21XHCY - This brings your membership fee down to $80 per year, less then the cost of one Broadway show ticket.

Bargain Hunter/Deal Finder/Stand Up Economist/Sarcastic Dude, Sam Pocker, founded YMMV Radio in late 2004. By the summer of 2005, Sam and his gang of misfits had saved their listeners tons. Really, food is heavy.
What is our mission? Umm. What?
We use coupons. We get lots of stuff for free. Some of it we use…most of it we give away. We’re not philanthropists and we’re not trying to make a statement. We just like to see how much stuff we can cram in our car and to see the bewilldered expression on the face of a shelter manager when you show up with a few hundred boxes of tampons or pudding…or whatever. We also have a really dark sense of humor - but you already caught onto that, right? Consumer performance art? Nah. Retail Anarchy? Mebbe. But we don’t want to move to Brooklyn. We like Queens. Call it what you want.
